Barefoot Shoes

Standard

Our feet are a complex biological system composed of hundreds of bones, joints, and tendons.  Modern foot ware has influenced this biological makeup placing unnecessary stresses on the foot.

Feet Conform to Shoes NOT Vise Versa

It’s no joke our feet grow to fill the shape of the shoe we put them in.  This has left many of use with hammer toes, bunions, corns, planter facetious and more.  Our shoes not only restrict natural movement of the foot but also how the foot strikes the ground.

Even your favorite running shoes may be causing you harm.  Dainel E Lieberman, professor of human evolutionary biology at Harvard University, performed a barefoot study showing individuals running barefoot land on the middle or front of the foot creating virtually no collision impact unlike individuals wearing modern running shoes who typically land on the heal of the foot.

The collision created by landing on the heal of the foot, even in cushioned modern shoes, is translated into the body which increases the risk of chronic injuries.

Finally a Shoe that Fits!

I highly encourage you try a pair of barefoot shoes.  Since purchasing these barefoot shoes I have become an instant celebrity.  I’ll be honest they are a bit flashy and odd looking.  They appear as a little mitten for your foot with a tough, sticky sole on the bottom.

They are designed with the barefoot foot in mind allowing for you to spread your toes out exercising all the muscles and tendons as well as facilitating a barefoot gait.  The feeling is completely euphoric but don’t take my word for it try out a pair of Vibram Five Finger Shoes for yourself.

They provide no foot supports.  Yes you heard me right, no supports.  So you ask what do you use for support.  It’s simple, you use your feet.  That’s the whole point.  They allow your feet to fully develop without restriction.

You’ll Experience Growing Pains with an Unrestricted Foot.

There’s no doubt this will take some getting used to.  I broke mine in wearing them a bit at a time as I’m sure you will have to as well.  Now I wear them on a daily basis.

I even run in them from time to time though this takes a bit more getting used to.  You’ll have to reprogram your stride to strike more gently and on the ball of your foot.  However, you feel like greased lightening when you run in these things!  They force you to improve the mechanics of your stride.  Not to mention your feet stick like glue and you hardly ever slip.

One thing I noticed immediately after purchasing the shoes is that my lingering lower back sourness was immediately gone.  I think you too will realize immediately the benefit of trying these unique shoes.  There’s no doubt Vibram is onto something good here!

  1. Hey thanks for your comment! You bring up an excellent point. My friends go to great lengths to dress up and make themselves attractive. Many girls feel heals are an integral part of the equation. And yes fashion industry plays a strong roll here. In my opinion the best way to be attractive is to maintain your health. I feel that heals are not a part of the health equation. They are very hard on the individuals who wear them. That being said if you are a heal lover, I think it’s OK to indulge yourself once in a while.

I must attest I wear my cowboy boots from time to time which I love to death. But only for special occasions and since I’ve moved to minimalist footware I can tell a huge difference in comfort with my boots. I once thought the boots were comfortable but they are literally excruciatingly uncomfortable to wear now after having experienced minimalist (healthier) footwear. Anything with a heal and or arch support has become very uncomfortable.

I can talk for a long time about this 🙂 We are actually working on a product release to help people maintain healthy feet. Make sure to keep in touch and I’ll see if we hook you up…

Thanks again for the excellent comment!
